<h2>Tiny elevator speech</h2>
<p>If you don't know me in real life (psst... you're probably lucky...), my name is Trent. I'm a software engineer focusing on Android application development, but that's just the fancy way to say that I'm a freakin' nerd. I'm an Ohio native living in New York City. I could go on, but I'm sure I'll ramble about myself plenty more in the posts to come...</p>
<h2>Trent the blogger</h2>
<p>In 2021, the word "blogger" means different things to different people, but I'm probably the last person on earth qualified for that title. I don't go to trendy cafes with my MacBook and write clickbait-y bits on the latest celeberty gossip. I'm not trying to sell products, promote trendy fashion, preach politics, or anything like that. So what's the real reason I created this blog? Honestly, I just did it for myself. Now I have somewhere to record my wild ride through this strange existance. That's all.</p>
<h2>Why not Facebook?</h2>
<p>I've been thinking about standing up a personal blog for a few years now. I've talked with friends about it, and many have asked me why I would go through the trouble of creating a custom website when I could just use social media. There are two main reasons:</p>
<p>First of all, owning your own Internet domain name is just flat out cool. For those that aren't aware, you can register to own Internet domains. For example, Google owns <a href="https://www.google.com">www.google.com</a>. This allows any computer connected to the Internet to easily understand how to communicate with Google (more specifically, Google's web servers). Obviously, there's a lot of complex magic under the hood to enable this, but that's the basic idea. In the same way, I'm now the registered owner of this site's Internet domain name: <a href="https://hudepohl.nyc">hudepohl.nyc</a>. Worldwide, anyone with an Internet connection can punch those 12 characters into their favorite web browser and find my content. Pretty neat -- don't you think?!</p>
<p>Secondly, my career in software has exposed me to the "evil behind the curtain" of the modern social media giants. I'm not comfortable sending too much of my personal data their way. I'm also not super fond of my content being smashed between yet another cat pic from your Aunt Suzie and an ad for that product you Googled yesterday.</p>
<h2>What does he know, anyway?!</h2>
<p>Do I really have anything special to tell you? What could I post here that hasn't been posted elsewhere already? Beats me. All I know is that I have a thing or two to say about my passions, experiences, beliefs, revelations, etc. I'm going to give this thing my best effort, but it's ultimately up to each reader to decide what to make of my content. I just ask that you read the topics posted here with a positive mindset and through an clear lense.</p>
<p>For those that know me in real life, I hope you feel invited to discuss and/or debate anything I present here in person. Preferable over a frosty, foamy beer.</p>
